Progressive Armando Sotomayor Backs Nanette Barragán for Congress

 SAN PEDRO, CA – Today the Nannette Barragán for Congress campaign announced that her primary opponent in California’s 44th district and strong third place finisher, Armando Sotomayor, has officially endorsed her run for Congress.  Mr. Sotomayor joins a robust list of local leaders endorsing Barragán for Congress since the primary election, including former Supervisor Gloria Molina, former Congressman Esteban Torres, and legendary union activist Dolores Huerta.

“I am so excited to be building this momentum heading in to the general election,” said Barragán. “I am honored to have earned Mr. Sotomayor’s endorsement. His progressive leadership has been an invaluable source of strength in this community. I know that with his support, we will continue to get our message out in the 44th district.”

Community volunteer Armando Sotomayor campaigned on bridging the achievement gap in schools and ensuring that our education system prepares students for the real world job market. Like Barragán, he is also committed to providing top notch healthcare for our seniors and protecting programs like Social Security to ensure that every American has a shot at their version of the American Dream.

“Nanette and I see eye to eye on many of the most important issues here in the 44th district,” said Mr. Sotomayor. “She understands that quality, affordable education is a crucial resource for this and every community across the United States. Our government should lift every American up, regardless of race or religion or country of origin, and I believe that Nanette is the only candidate in this race with the skills, commitment, and integrity to make this happen.”

Barragán, the daughter of immigrants from Mexico, grew up in Carson and the surrounding areas where she attended Stephen M. White Junior High School, learned to swim at the Carson Pool, and studied at the Carson Library. She worked her way through UCLA and law school at USC before becoming a long-time advocate for the environment and the first elected Latina member of the Hermosa Beach City Council. She was also a leader in the fight against Measure O, a ballot measure that would have allowed oil companies to drill for oil in the Santa Monica Bay.
