Chicano Latino Immigrant Democratic Club of Los Angeles County Endorses Nanette Barragán
SAN PEDRO, CA – Gearing up for the general election, Nanette Barragán scored another endorsement from a key Democratic Club, the Chicano Latino Immigrant Democratic Club of Los Angeles County (CLIDCLAC). Their support is especially important as Barragán strives to build a coalition that represents every community in California’s 44th district.
“The many Chicano and Latino immigrant families in this district deserve a representative who understands their problems and respects their values,” said Barragán. “I understand their struggles. I lived them. I know that this community desperately needs comprehensive immigration reform, but it also needs good schools, good jobs and safe streets. It needs someone who will stand up for social justice and reject corruption in Washington. I am so grateful to CLIDCLAC for their support, and I will strive every day to live up to their confidence.”
Founded with the purpose of furthering Chicano and Latino immigrant populations, CLIDCLAC serves as an important voice in CA-44 and throughout Los Angeles County. The group also provides a crucial platform for Chicano and Latino leadership, to promote stronger candidates for Los Angeles and California as a whole.
“The Chicano Latino Immigrant Democratic Club of Los Angeles County admires all the work accomplished by Ms. Barragan on social justice issues, racial health disparities, and her successful fight against Measure O, a ballot measure that would have allowed oil companies to drill in the Santa Monica Bay,” said Fidel Gomez, Chairperson of CLIDCLAC. “She has a strong commitment to bringing to the community better paying jobs, raising the minimum wage, access to better schools, and safe and healthy communities, regardless of age, income, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.”
Barragán, the daughter of immigrants from Mexico, lives in San Pedro and grew up in Carson and the surrounding areas where she attended Stephen M. White Middle School, learned to swim at Carson Pool, and studied at the Carson Library. She worked her way through UCLA and law school at USC before becoming a long-time advocate for the environment and the first elected Latina member of the Hermosa Beach City Council. She was also a leader in the fight against Measure O, a ballot measure that would have allowed oil companies to drill for oil in the Santa Monica Bay. She currently works with one of Los Angeles’s largest and most prominent children’s advocacy organizations to provide free legal services to children in foster care who have special education needs.
