CA-44 Candidate Nanette Barragán Releases Statement on Women’s Equality Day

SAN PEDRO, CA – Nanette Barragán, Democratic candidate for Congress in CA-44, issued the following statement today on Women’s Equality Day:

“While it may be easy to take the right to vote for granted, it was not terribly long ago that women in this country were simply not afforded that right. Every election and, by extension, every vote taken in Congress, was decided exclusively by men. That’s why Women’s Equality Day is so important. It’s a reminder to us of how far we’ve come, but it’s also a reminder of how far we still have to go. My own mother came to this country as an immigrant and, upon becoming a citizen, firmly embraced her right to participate in our democracy. Seeing Republicans’ attacks on women’s access to healthcare and their refusal to demand equal pay for equal work, proves we need to do the same. We must support women running for office, we must support candidates who support women, and we must commit ourselves to being active, vocal participants in the decisions that impact our bodies and our lives.”
